Pebble Beach Tour d'Elegance 2017

Pebble Beach Tour d'Elegance is an amazing event. It is designed to "showcase the elegance of the automobile in motion". It is also several other things. As a driving event it puts these world class, museum quality vintage vehicles to the test of performing in and round the hills of Carmel-by-the-Sea. This is an event that allows the locals and anyone to pick a spot on the route and watch automotive history drive by, at no charge. Then there is the show on Ocean Avenue, where the Tour stops for a catered lunch in the Carmel Park for the drivers and passengers. The cars are parked in the roadway and left for the crush of people to stare at and take photos of. This is part of the payback to the long-suffering locals who have to put up with all this madness each year, which has become the Monterey Car Week.

The Tour also has an additional more-hidden feature. The priceless and pampered over, Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® cars are invited on the Tour. But as concours cars are prepared months and years in advance for display on the back lawn of the Pebble Beach Lodge, the thought of driving it down the open highways and roadways for several miles just 3 days before the show must be agonizing. Then having to clean it back to the unbelievable standards of the Pebble Beach Concours so many miles away from ones workshop should make the highly completive show goers not even think about doing such common things to their lovely Automobiles.

The 'carrot' is in the form of offering a "tie breaker" advantage to any "Tour car", therefore drawing in even the most completive show participant.
