Sebastian Vettel puts Ferrari on front row in qualifying for the first time in 2 years and then goes on to a first place podium finish for Ferrari in his second drive in the Red Car.
Ferrari spent the off season looking for more power after a lackluster first year of racing and they seemed to have found it as Vettel had little trouble staying in front of the Mercedes.

Just inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association NASCAR Hall of Fame are
Mario Andretti, the only driver to win the Indianapolis 500, the Daytona 500 and the Formula One world championship, Ray Evernham, a championship-winning crew chief and former NASCAR team owner, and award-winning journalist Steve Waid.
5.18.14 Sir Jack Brabham. The Racing World has lost one more of the Great Gentlemen of the Golden Age of Racing.
Sir Brabham passed away at his home in Gold Coast, Australia on Monday.
Jack Brabham was a three-time
Formula 1 World Champion, and his 1966 world title made him the only driver to be crowned champion in a car
bearing his own name.
Jack Brabham and his partner, Ron Tauranac built and raced formula and sports racing cars. Ron built the cars and Jack would race. They sold cars to clients to support the racing efforts. Just like that guy did with red cars in Italy, except Jack kept racing them.
Jack even flew his own airplane, sometimes flying back to England to get parts or an engine during the race-setup days.

Ferrari so far has not found what it needs to place its cars on the front row. Ferrari has always been about engines and power. Adding a 'motor' to the mix seems to have created a mystery.

The first race for Formula 1 in 2014 started with all new cars and a radical change in technology. The engine sound was terrible too.
Red Bull, the totally dominating force for 2013 with the cool Sebastian Vettel driving, seams unable to get their 'sums' correct and have started out struggling back in the pack.

Hungarian GP, Budapest
July 26-28, 2013
Practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring circuit just outside of Budapest,
gave Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg their first opportunity to try the new Pirelli medium and soft tire compounds for the first time.
Nico Rosberg commented at the end, "That was a busy day for us and we learned a lot in the two practice sessions. We know that it's quite challenging for our car in these hot conditions and we also had to learn about the new tires for the first time today. I'm pleased with the progress that we made today but some of the other teams look quick here so we have more work to do. Tire overheating is still an issue but I'm confident that we will be able to find a good set up and hopefully achieve a decent result this weekend".

6.9.13 2013 Formula One Canada Grand Prix Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Quebec, Canada:
Sebastian Vettel runs uncontested from pole to checker flag.
With a 14.4 second lead and a perfectly performing car crossing the finish line was un-climactic. The battle was back in the pack starting with 2nd and 3rd. place.
On lap 63 Fernando Alonso in his Ferrari made a move on Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes and took over 2nd. Lewis Hamilton had held onto 2nd from lap 1 with Alonso finishing lap1 in 5th place. But Alonso had slowly worked up to 3rd and when Hamilton appeared to slow started his last laps charge.
The only bobble that Sebastian Vettel showed was a detour in the grass after the pit straight. Before and after, that just a drive around the park for Vettel.
Force India's Adrian Sutilput on a great show get getting excellent milage out of thier tires.

Some interesting numbers. With work on 2014 F1 cars in play and the changeover to a smaller engine the magazine Autoweek shared some numbers. A new F1 car costs about $2.6M in materials. The new 1.6L V6 turbocharged engine can reach 18,000 RPMs; produce about 800 HP but at a cost of 8 MPG. The car is full of computer sensors and wirelessly transmits about 1.5B samples of data to the team's garage, which is then fed into a supercomputer for analysis.

Formula 1 Regulation Changes 2012:
New Safety Car rules: Art. 40.12:
If it is considered safe to do so, cars that have been lapped by the leader will be allowed to unlap themselves under the Safety Car. This will have the effect of putting the field in position order at every restart and leaving all cars free to race, rather than the leaders having to pass backmarkers, thus improving the racing.
Case in point: In the 2011 Singapore race the presence of backmarkers allowed Sebastian Vettel to build a nine-second lead over second-placed Jenson Button in a single lap after the Safety Car period.
