There are always new rules and new changes to be dealt with every year for race teams and car builders. This year, 2014, will see a big change as it fields cars with new power delivery systems. Last year the 'Deltawing' ran setting of a new category called "Garage 56" to allow new cutting edge concepts the chance to prove them under high stress racing conditions.

The 2014 Categories are:
LM P1 (2 sections)
Now closed cars only with no production minimum required. Le Mans Prototype 1 Light (LM P1-L): with no energy recovery system and reserved only for privateers;

Le Mans Prototype 1 Hybrid (LM P1-H): with mandatory energy recovery system which feeds back the energy harvested.

LM P2
Similar characteristics to LM P1 (carbon-fiber monocoque chassis) : Chassis cost is capped at 370,000 € ; engine cost is capped at 80,350 €.

LM GTE Pro
Grand Touring cars are the hart and tradition of the 24 Heures du Mans. Since its creation in 1923, this endurance test has welcomed cars essentially straight from the showroom. Like in 1995 when the McLaren F1 GTR, derived from the street car, won overall.

LM GTE Am
A class for amateur drivers race alongside and wheel to wheel with professionals at the 24 Heures du Mans. Past drivers include; Paul Newman, Patrick Dempsey, Jean-Claude Killy, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Steve Fossett, Paul Belmondo, Nick Mason from Pink Floyd, David Hallyday or Luc Alphand, allowing many celebrities to test their driving skills Technically, the cars of the GTE Am class align closely with the regulations of the GTE Pro class, but cars in GTE Am must be at least one year old.

Garage 56
A new concept of a "green" entry cars The initiative is to encourage the development of new technologies, the most spectacular testing laboratory is offered, the 24 Heures du Mans.

The 2014 list of cars to line up for the start include:

Aston Martin Vantage V8, Porsche 911 RSR, Ferrari 458 Italia, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Chevrolet Corvette C7, Morgan - Jud, ORECA 03-Nissan, Ligier JS P2 - Nissan, Zytek Z11SN - Nissan, Alpine A450 - Nissan, Ligier Js P2 - HPD, Dome Strakka S103 - Nissan, Porsche 919 - Hybrid, Rebellion Toyota R-One, Lotus T129 - AER, Toyota Ts 040 - Hybrid, Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro, Nissan Zeod RC.
