Back in 2001, Porsche racecar driver Brian Redman, though Brian Redman's Intercontinental Events, Inc. and Porsche Cars North America, Inc. teamed up to run a few old Porsche race cars at the Lime Rock Park race track.

This one marque event became a instant hit. People wanted it to be run on various tracks all over the world. But so far the event has stayed in the US. Rennsport Reunion II and III was held on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway in 2004 and 2007 setting the stage for running the event every 3 years or so.

This year, 2011 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the Rennsport Reunion IV will make its first appearance on the West Coast of the US, and is billed as " The world's greatest gathering of Porsche race cars and the drivers that drove them to victory", reuniting the cars and drivers that together have written Porsche's motorsports history during the last 60 years on all five continents.

Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV Attracts Famous Men and Machines of Porsche Motorsport history. Expected at the 2 day event are:

Drivers:
Vic Elford; James Weaver; Gijs van Lennep; Chip Robinson; George Follmer; Dan Gurney; Hurley Haywood; Dick Barbour and John Fitzpatrick; Derek Bell, and the current Porsche factory drivers.

Guests:
Norbert Singer,; Hans Mezger; and Alwin Springer. Jerry Seinfeld Joins Norbert Singer as Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV Grand Marshal.

Norbert Singer is the man who inspired many of the Porsche race cars that will be on display at the upcoming Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV at Mazda Raceway October 14 through 16 2011.

Cars:
1980 Porsche 935 K3 - the 1980 Sebring overall winner; 1967 2.0-liter 911T a Daytona and Sebring class winner; a rare Porsche 906; 1989 Porsche 962C driven at Le Mans by the father and son team of Derek Bell/Justin Bell; a 911 GT3 RSR (996) with the ALMS title.

This is just an early list, with more to come.

Porsche's historic racing models will be on track ranging from quick 550 Spyder of the mid-Fifties through the mighty 917 and 956/962 of the Seventies and Eighties. The highly successful RS Spyder of the last decade will also be on hand.

This year the weekend will conclude with a guest appearance of the Cayman Interseries and a race of modern 911 Cup cars for the Rennsport Reunion Trophy. All tickets will provide full access to both paddocks and trackside for viewing everything up close.

A preliminary list of race groups is:

Group 1: Gmund Cup
550, 550A, RSK, RS60-61 (4&8 cyl.) 2000 GSGT (Dreikantschaber), Abarth Carrera, 356 GT, and any other 356 with FIA history. Selected 356 history cars.
Group 2: Eifel Trophy
904 (4&6 cyl.), 914/6 GT, 911TR, 911ST, 911 (911 up to 2.5 liter), Lotus/Porsche, Cooper/Porsche (Pooper) etc, Elva/Porsche. 914's & 911's must have period racing history
Group 3: Weissach Cup
906, 910, 907, 908, 908/2, 908/3 (8 cyl. & 6 turbo), 909, 917 (normally aspirated and turbocharged)
Group 4: Carrera Trophy
911 (over 2.5 liter), RSR, 3.0 RSR, 2.1 Turbo, 934, 935, 936, 924 GTS, 924 GTR.
Group 5: Stuttgart Cup

R5, was one of the RS/RSR development fleet of factory racers, which Norbert Singer was called on to create. R5 was constructer around a 911 body shell during February 1973. R5 ran the 1000 Kms of Dijon, the third Makes round of the year and won the GT division driven by Gijs van Lennep and Herbert Müller.

After being wrecked during the Nürburgring's 1000 kilometer event, R5 was set aside until Singer started the Carrera RSR Turbo, project. R5 was used as a proof of concept prototype for the new 934s and 985s that would appear in 1976. R5 became the first ever in the use of turbo charging for a production-based race car.

R5 gained several modified components as a test platform for developing the RSR Turbo and ran in the 1974 24 Hours of Le Mans almost finishing 1st overall, ending in second place.

Gunnar Racing purchased the car and reconverted it between 2000 to 2008 back to its 1973 factory racer configuration.
