Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2009 Gallery 1

The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance®, has evolved into one of the world's foremost classic car events. The annual event now offers a glimpse into the automotive futureas exemplified by the more than 20 new and concept vehicles showcased at the 2009 Concours.

Several vehicles made world debuts at the 2009 Concours this August, iAncluding the Bentley Mulsanne grand tourer, Bugatti Sang Bleu, Devon Motor Works GTX, Iconic Motors Heritage Roadster Concept Chassis, 2011 Infiniti M and Spyker C8 Aileron Spyder . North American debuts included the Aston Martin One-77, Hyundai Equus, Infiniti Essence concept, 2010 Jaguar XJ, Morgan Aero SuperSports and Porsche Panamera . Several other manufacturers also opted to display new and concept vehicles, including Audi, Ferrari, Fisker Automotive, Lexus, Lincoln, Lotus, Mercedes-Benz, Rolls-Royce, Stile Bertone, and Tramontana .

PEBBLE BEACH, California - To honor Phil Hill, a Formula 1 World Drivers Champion who had an unceasing passion for all manner of automobiles, the Pebble Beach Concours d"Elegance , working through the Pebble Beach Company Foundation , has established the Pebble Beach Phil Hill Scholarships . Hill passed away a few days after the last Concours, at age 81.

"Phil was a friend of this Concours from the very beginning, and he remained devoted to this event right up to his final days," said Pebble Beach Concours Chairman Sandra Button . "We all miss him, and we want to do something very special to honor his memory."

Hill began his association with PebbleBeach by capturing wins at the 1950, 1953 and 1955 Pebble Beach Road Races , which were held on the narrow and winding roads of Del Monte Forest. More... -pdf

Morgan owners are invited to bring their cars to the Carmel Mission to greet these Morgans and celebrate with them, and the public is also invited to attend on Thursday, August 13.

Charles Morgan, grandson of company founder, to participate; Morgan owners and the public are invited to attend

The 2009 Pebble Beach Tour d'Elegance® presented by Rolex will include a special reception and centennial celebration for Morgan motor cars at the historic Carmel Mission on Thursday, August 13.

Charles Morgan , the current Managing Director and grandson of the Morgan Motor Company founder, will head the parade of Morgans participating in the Tour d'Elegance®. These same cars will be competing for Class and Special Awards in the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance® on Sunday, August 16, where Morgan is a featured marque.

Cars that Shaped Ferrari Legend at 2009 Pebble Beach Concours.
Ferrari"s 166 MM Touring Barchetta was also one of its most successful race cars, winning at competitions such as the 1949 Mille Miglia (this the MM in its name) and the 1949 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Ferrari TR 59 also won a number of major races, including its 1959 debut at Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1960. All four existing TR 59s, of the five ever built, will be displayed in August at Pebble Beach, chronicling the modifications this works racer experienced during two seasons of Ferrari racing.

The early 3 Litre car that ushered in the legend of Bentley at Le Mans will be among the many storied and stylish Bentleys showcased when the 59th annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance® takes place on Sunday, Aug. 16. Event organizers also plan to unite the record-setting Bentley Speed Sixes, known more simply as Old Numbers One, Two and Three, and the iconic Birkin Blower race cars.

1956 Porsche Carrera in Preservation Class
After carefully storing his 1956 Porsche Carrera in a backyard carriage house for nearly 40 years, retired NASA scientist Dr. Roger Craig began piecing the engine back together in 2000. Dr. Craig, his wife and the 1956 Porsche 356 1500 GS race car are returning to Pebble Beach after 53 years (the car ran in the 1956 Pebble Beach Road Races) to be part of the Concours' preservation class.
