RACE DAY ... NASCAR Sonoma Raceway Toyota/Save Mart 350 2015
Kyle Busch back in his car after a serious leg injury pressed harder than the rest of the field and received the checkered flag with a good lead.
NASCAR is about Speed; Team Work; Preparation; Driving Talent; Luck and the right combination of all of these.
Kyle had the right combination and the rest did not. That's racing. That is why we watch it. Sonoma Raceway road course is a great place to see this kind of action as it adds many factors into the mix. The off-camber turns hills and tight corners presses the drivers and teams to make the right choices to get the car and their driver to the flag.
YOU GOT TO BE THERE!

The Start through Turn 1
Into Turn 2. The off-Camber turn can put cars into the dirt... And does.
Moving to the front of the line requires team work and SKILL
NASCAR is all about the PARTY

The Turn 4 Hop
Several drives did not head this sign and got the wall
This is a tight place to pass
The home town favorite, Jeff Gordon, was fighting an ill handling car that he had keep near the front until he tried a 'Hail Marry' near the end of the race with a huge suspension change in hopes to give him a run to the front. Jeff's plans were dashed however when one of his pit crewman made the misjudgment of throwing a rubber shim he had just removed from Jeff's car back over the car into the pit box. This is a "BIG NO NO".
NASCAR says there is no throwing allowed across the pit wall. Jeff was sent to the end of the line of cars and all hope of finishing near the front in the time remaining was gone although he did push his way up to 16th.
Brett Moffitt puts a wheel in the air
Danica Patrick has become a lost face in racing, finishing in 24th position 2 places back from where she started. I had watched Danica race INDYCARS at Sonoma and she displayed good skill, although not the type of road course savvy that it takes to be a star in this type of racing. The largeness of the NASCAR' cars and the overly aggressiveness of the NASCAR drivers seems to have done what I feared would do to Danica, stop her in her path of becoming a truly great race car drive. Not just a great female racer which she is. However, sadly, Danica is no longer a winner. And I will blame the selfishness' on the NASCAR marketing people that wooed Danica away from INDAYCAR where she was showing the skill to pass cars and run at the front .

The Lady and a Tire. Could be the start of a story
Racing is all about going fast. But tires are a really big part of the formula
