Porsche Works Reunion 2017
For 2017 the Porsche Works Reunion relocated to Corral De Tierra Country Club up the road from Monterey near Salinas. This puts the location out of all the traffic craziness of the crush of the other events. But. The ingress/egress was not really thought out and the incoming back up was to forever and as there was only driveway into the Club, traffic had to be stopped each way on the one lane drive. As long as I am crabbing... The event is labeled as 'Free" but upon arrival one has to dig for parking fees. Given the exceptional price points for most all events during the Auto Week, the small fee to allow one to drive into a FREE EVENT, the money was not and issue only a misrepresentation.
All that said. the Porsche Works Reunion was a wonderful laid back gathering of Porsche's in a wonderful setting. Signage for the cars was good and the slow pace allowed the owners time to talk about their cars. The stage had several Porsche drivers from the past to the present to talk about their racing experience.
The Works Reunion is mostly about Owners cars with the Porsche Factory mostly supporting the event with road cars. To become emerged in Porsche Race cars one must attend the Hyper event called the Rennsport Reunion.
As we left just after lunch, so as to attend another event. we ran into the incoming line of cars and after the slow crawl to the main roadway we were turned south away from the half mile away junction with the main highway and on to what was about a 12 to 18 mile loop. Luckily I had a GPS that I quickly brought up and wound my way through some very narrow back road ways reaching the Laurel Grade Road at the Monterey Salinas Hwy

Porsche built the 1,000,000th example of the most iconic sports car ever: the 911.
The 911 won the hearts of sports car enthusiasts from the outset. The prototype was first unveiled at the Frankfurt IAA Motor Show in 1963 as the 901, and was renamed the 911 for its market launch in 1964. Its air-cooled six-cylinder flat engine with two-litre displacement delivered 130 hp, giving it an impressive top speed of 210 km per hour.
The Porsche 911 became more and more powerful as displacement increased, initially to 2.2 litres (1969) and later to 2.4 (1971). The 911 Carrera RS 2.7 of 1972 with a 210 hp engine and weighing less than 1000 kg remains the epitome of a dream car to this day.

Porsche organized a 600 mile road trip to celebrate the 1 millionth 911 and the ongoing success of Porsche's flagship model. After a global tour, at the Nürburgring, and and drives in the United States, it will have permanent residence at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.
The model run has gone through 7 series: 911 2,0 Coupé from 1965; 911 Carrera 2,7 Coupé from 1973 G series; 911/964 Carrera 4 3,6 Coupé from 1989; 911/993 Carrera 3,6 Coupé from 1993; 911/996 Carrera 3,4 Coupé from 1997; 911/997 Carrera 3,6 Coupé from 2004; 911/991 Carrera 3,4 Coupé from 2011.

The Irish Green Carrera S has many parts from Porsche’s Exclusive options portfolio as and one-off parts designed to bring it as close to the original 911 as possible.

The interior features leather seats with inserts finished in the original 1964 houndstooth pattern. The gauge pod gets “1,000,000 911” lettering as well as silver instrument trim that echoes that of the first 911. The steering wheel has the 1960s version of the Porsche crest on its hub and mahogany trim, which is a nod to the wooden-rim wheels that characterized sports cars of the period. There are also “1,000,000” badges on the B-pillar and passenger-side dashboard. On its exterior, this car sports plenty of silver trim, including the door handles, the window surrounds, and the slats for the vent on the engine cover as on the original 911. Twenty-inch wheels honor the iconic Fuchs wheels that characterized 911s for decades. Finally, the engine is the uprated Powerkit version of the S’s twin-turbocharged flat-six, here making 450 horsepower and paired with a seven-speed manual transmission.
