Martin Truex wins NASCAR at Sonoma
Martin Truex overcomes a long spell and finally finds a win at Somona.

The Sonoma favorite, Jeff Gordon finishes 2nd.

NASCAR runs 2 road-course events, 1 at Sonoma Raceway in California and the other at Watkins Glen N.Y. NASCAR just announced for Sonoma Raceway's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series they will implement the group-based road-course qualifying procedure used in NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Touring Series competition. This will also apply for Watkins Glen. Sonoma's hilly 10 turn 1.99 mile road course is always a challenge for the drivers after the left-turn only oval tracks. The bump-and-run of the slower corner speeds allows for great spectator moments and leaves parts dangling as the cars fight for position.

The road-course challenges allow different and sometimes speical-road-course drivers to show their talents, and the new qualifying should create some interesting competition.

The new Generation-6 cars will run 110 laps and cover 218.9 miles, and the first road-course for the new design. The Generation-6 cars are said to more closely resemble cars on the showroom floor, with the exception of the carbon fiber rear deck lid. Also a new feature and help for the "FANS", the drivers will have their name on the top of the windshield.

Jeff Gordon is still the king of Sonoma, with five victories starting back in 1998. But since 2006, Jeff has been chasing his 7th. Maybe this year.
