It would be a cliché to say that this years Festival of Speed is the biggest yet, it would be an easy way to start this article. The thing is, this really was the biggest. You wouldn't think that there was a world wide financial down turn, with the motor manufactures doing there best to out do each other, Ford`s three floor stand, although calling it a stand is a little under estimating the size. It even had a fair ground type 'drop' ride, plunging the guest to the stand from the top third floor down to the first in a second, with their picture taken and then shown on a huge screen on the front of the stand. Audi`s space seemed to of grown again this year too, more of a showroom than a stand. But Alfa Romeo showed a touch of Italian style in black and red, showing their new model next to a classic Alfa on a gloss black tiled floor.

Standing taller than all the manufactures and the Goodwood house, was this year central sculpture showing three generations of Porsche 911. This is the 50th anniversary of the famous model from the German marque.

On the hill climb the Festivals normal eclectic mix of motorcars and motorbikes, from the history to the present day of motor-sport. From drivers taking priceless classics up the hill as a demonstration to the watching crowds, to more enthusiastic drives keen on setting the fastest time of the weekend. The awards would be handed out on the Sunday evening to fastest in the different classes and of course the fastest time.

Just before the end of the Festival of Speed at the awards, Jackie Ickx took to the mic and thanked Lord March, his family and the Goodwood team for 20 years of the Festival, but to the fans that have come back year after year.

Can Goodwood out do themselves next year for the 21st Festival of Speed? I think its a real possibility going by the pass 20 years.
