Goodwood Breakfast Club: Soft Top Sunday 1st June 2014.
The sun definitely brought an eclectic mix of interesting, rare and the unusual: But with one criteria in common. Open motoring was the order of the morning at June"s Breakfast Club Meeting at Goodwood.
Mid morning a rather modest and incognito Lord March and family were seen leaving in a rather splendid open A.C. in understated grey coachwork. Probably checking the amazing weather he always appears to lay on turned up on cue?
Long shadows and soft light, just right for the camera, greet the early risers (ed.)
T" type openings, "buggys" and standard configuration convertibles ... all in a row. (ed.)
The Ariel Atom. An open top car or a 4 wheel motorcycle? (ed.)
Very much a day of contrasts it was good to see a Lamborghini Jalpa next to an MGB and further down the Pit Straight, an SS Jaguar next to a Zonda: the somewhat kitsch honeycomb mesh and bling cockpit attracting more attention that graceful coachwork of Browns Lane at it"s best. Interesting to note the use of chrome 80 years apart has such an extreme contrast of effect.
The Breakfast Club misses July, due to the Festival of Speed (26th to 29th June) at the House. Admission tickets are sold in advance only, details on purchasing available at: https://ticketing.goodwood.com/motor-sport/festival-of-speed.html
Those were the days when car manufactures made cars that had personalities. (ed.)
Larger but still only a 2 seater (ed.)
If one can not put people back there, might as well have an engine (ed.)
The English have some very eccentric range of collective nouns for all kinds of species: "a flush of mallards" is one and what about a "bouquet of pheasants". One theory is the origins stems from poachers discussing their quarry in their local without the Game-Keeper, or informant to the local Squire fully understanding the discussion? This idea when applied to cars became a fun game for us when strolling around the Paddock, a nuclei of Atoms, perhaps? Or a tribe of Sevens, of the Lotus variety?
BMW ... or Alfa ...? (ed.)
Oh my ... and all silver (ed.)
I don't believe Donald did that! (ed.)
Then and Now (ed.)
The 'Lovely Queen Lady' of the Morning (ed.)
Square tail or round tail?? (ed.)
A Lancia with a hole in the roof. Good show! (ed.)
A Mini Convertible?? What will BMW do next? Make it into a Mini 4 door sedan? Oh wait I think they did that already. (ed.)
That will let the wind blow up your knickers (ed.)
"I think that is where the gumballs come out if you put a Shilling in the above slot" (ed.)
I don't think the Lady will fit into the yellow one just yet. (ed.)
As always a fun morning at Goodwood for all those in attendance.
Breakfast"s and cars are back 3rd August with "Thoroughbred Sunday". Looking forward to it, as always.
