Goodwood Breakfast Club 4th May: Super Car Sunday.

A sound bite provided to us from the Goodwood Press Office was that half a million horse power was going to be in attendance at the Super Car Sunday Breakfast Club.

Once again Lord March provided us with amazing weather which bought out a crowd estimated of some 14,000 and close to a 1,000 cars were pre-registered to gain entry to the circuit for this free to all event; only cost being coffee's, bacon rolls or a full breakfast as a reward for the early start. It's difficult to think now, but the first Festival of Speed in 1993 attracted the same sort of numbers. And, as always, Goodwood attracts a decent mix of people, all of whom are knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

Rolls Royce also celebrated the first meeting of Charles Rolls and Henry Royce 110 years ago to the day.

The next Breakfast Club is Soft Top Sunday on June 1st.

PROLOGUE
Countdown to Super Car Sunday Breakfast Club at Goodwood.

With only 5 days remaining before the most popular of the Breakfast Clubs arrives, 8000 people are expected to the 'free to all' event (750 registered vehicles/bikes). Goodwood's own organic breakfasts are available in the pits, with seating area are various beverage and breakfast bars about the event. Veggie menu's are also available.

Now in it's ninth year the Breakfast Club has gone from strength to strength. Originally devised by Lord March and his team to "do something at the circuit on a Sunday", options were fairly limited due to the planning permission granted by Chichester District Council stipulated that Sunday's were to be "Quite Days", to allow the Revival, and now the Members to take place. The inaugural season, in 2006, had a small number of cars dotted about the gravel car park adjacent to the Vitra Cafe on the outside of the circuit.

Today the event has grown, with cars parked down the pit lane from the Chicane to Madgwick Corner and in the Paddock too.

At last year's event, there were three McLaren's, a couple of Zonda's and a Veyron. In addition to a fair number of Maserati's, Aston's, Lamborghini's and more Ferrari's and TVR's that will challenge your stick shaking ability's. There are no ropes around any of them either to annoy the photographer's amongst you.

Anyone that is thinking of going with their Super Car should Pre-Register on the Goodwood Website. Alternatively, the marshal's will direct you to the car park north of the circuit.

Considering the cars stretched from Madgwick Corner, up the Pit Straight, passed the Chicane to half way along Lavant Straight. And that's before considering all areas of the Paddock were nicely stocked with lots of interesting and excessive means of transport.

It might only be a couple of years away, when it will become possible to walk the complete circuit looking at cars.

It was also good to see a number of Super Cars from earlier years: It's not often that six Ferrari F40's are found in one place.

Yes is a large bunch of that half a million horse power...

Perhaps a highlight was a white Porsche GT3 4.0 RS, of which there are only 32 in the UK, of which 24 are Right Hand Drive.

An Austin Healey 3000 was also present, which must qualify as they were equally at home on the track, at Sebring and Le Mans, but also rallying, with an outright victory at the 1960 Liege Rome Liege driven by Pat Moss, Sir Stirling's sister.
