THE 2010 FERRARI CALIFORNIA UNDER THE CALIORNIA SUN.
Some of the more loved Ferraris are the early 12 cylinder 166 MM Berlinetta Barchettas. These cars were petite example of power and performance. The new Ferrari California gives me a feeling of a modern-day petite example of power and performance. However to compare the 166 MM Berlinetta, with the 2010 Ferrari California would be like comparing a sun dial to a modern chronograph.
Ferrari North America and Ferrari of Silicon Valley, Redwood City, California invited AllCarCentral.com to have a test drive of their 2010 California. We accepted within 1 millisecond of receiving the offer. After enjoying a hot cup of coffee in the bright bistro that the dealership has provided in the entrance of the Ferrari/Maserati showroom, we met our courteous, well-informed saleman and guide, Jason Zafiropoulo. Jason showed us outside where he introduced us to the California.
Modern automotive offerings that are currently being turned out into the bright sunlight as examples of mechanical engineering, are not just plastic, rubber bits and metal, but something much more. As we enter this new decade that begins with 2010, we are finding electronics, computer science, extreme chemical engineering, and bioengineering that is driving the art of automotive design into new levels. What has been tried and tested on a bit by bit format is being assembled into complete units and painted with shiny bright colors and sent into dealer's showrooms.
A package of excitement was quietly idling in the sunlight before me in "Look at me Ferrari Red". A 2010 Ferrari California. The California is a new model with 2 seats, a front located V8, and a retractable hard top. It is a polite easily familiarized, modern personal vehicle, capable of docile behavior on the streets yet ready to jump to the command of the slightest pressure of the right foot or turn of the wheel.
A new bread of cars has been quietly moving into the main stream of traffic from all the automotive design centers around the world. Cars that will parallel park themselves. Cars that will not accelerate no matter how hard the pedal is pressed, if the front wheels are not straight ahead. Brakes that will automatically stop wheel spin under acceleration. Cars that will automatically steer back into the traffic lane if the car should wander. Maintain a constant speed up hill and down. Maintain a safe distance away from objects in front. Change gears and automatically, reprogram suspension settings based on how the car is currently being driven.
The 2010 Ferrari California has its "package" of sensing and "Bio-sensing" computer commands, however during my short affair with this particular vehicle, all effects of computer controlled commands were felt as mostly simple aids which enhanced my experience rather than it having wrestle control from me, and given command over to the pre-supposition of What-Was-The-Best-Response under some math formula of the design engineers back at the factory some thousands of miles away. I firmly was the driver and the California was in my charge. I felt at one with the car.
My suggestion: Sell out your stock portfolio, dump your derivatives. They only make people like a Madoff happy. Go buy a Ferrari California. Its only purpose of existence is to make the driver and all those who lay eyes on it, happy.
Ferraris are now full service cars, with comfort, performance and style.
