BMW i8 Concept: Emotional, Dynamic and Efficient.

The Concept car, BMW Vision EfficientDynamics created excitement and positive feedback at the IAA 2009.

After successful initial testing of the vehicle concept, the decision for a series-production vehicle was made. The BMW i8 Concept was the next step in the evolution of the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept.

The i8 Concept resulted in the most progressive and innovative sports car of its time. Its plug-in hybrid concept combines a modified electric drive system located over its front axle, from the BMW i3 Concept. In addition there is a high-performance three-cylinder combustion engine producing 164 kW/220 hp and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) at the rear. Together, the two drive systems deliver the performance of a sports car with the fuel consumption of a small car.

Acceleration: 0 to 62 mph in under five seconds. Fuel consumption: under three liters per 100 kilometers (approx. 94 mpg imp). The large lithium-ion battery, which can be charged from a domestic power supply, the BMW i8 Concept can travel up to 20 miles on electric power alone.

The 2+2-seater offers enough space for four people.

BMW i3 Concept - Sustained Urban Mobility.

The BMW i3 is a all encompassing concept, with each detail optimized. Its LifeDrive architecture delivers the BMW i3 Concept light, safe, spacious and dynamic. Innovative materials and lightweight design enables the i3 Concept to travel long distances on a single charge. The engineering also provide excellent safety in the event of a collision and provides excellent driving dynamics.

The electric motor located over the rear axle generates output of 125 kW/170 hp and torque of 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) from a stop. The BMW i3 Concept accelerates from 0 to 37 mp) in under four seconds and 0 to 62 mph in less than eight seconds.

The BMW i3 Concept is equipped for the demands of everyday use with four seats, wide-opening opposing "coach" doors, a trunk capacity of around 200 liters and an additional functional compartment in the front.
