Socializing with Fića 2014 3rd Annual

The Museum of Contemporary Art, formerly the Museum of 25th May, is now the location for gathering and socializing with Fića. This is the third gathering and it is slowly becoming a tradition. It is organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Association of Historians of Motorsports.

At the gathering there were about 40 Fića, one Zastava 101 and one Fiat 126. The oldest car was a Fića 600, 1959, in excellent condition. It was a great opportunity for young people to see how people once traveled, and for the elderly to remember their youth.

The very popular car called Zastava or Fića was a symbol of a country, its industrial development and higher living standards of its population, that no longer exists.

At the Geneva Motor Show in March 1955, the Italian Company, Fiat introduced the Model 600. The creator of this car was the famous Dante Giacosa. The Model 600 has rapidly gained status in the world's car as it was produced in Spain, Germany, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia and Yugoslavia, as well as Italy. By the end of production, a total of almost 5,000,000 units were made.

In late 1955 in Yugoslavia, at Crvena, car maker Zastava Kragujevac began their development of the Fiat 600. Initially the complete car was imported from Italy and sold under the name Zastava. The Zastava 750 is widely known by its nickname "Fića" Serbian, Montenegrin, Croatian and Bosnian. "Fića" comes from the main character of a comic published by the newspaper Borba during the first years of the car's production. The Fića name is tied to Josip Broz Tito.

It is recorded that in 1955, 25 units sold and 33 units in 1956.

By the end of 1957 domestic construction and material handling had been intruduced and the share of domestic production was roughly 16% of the total vehicles and that expanded into mid- 1961 at 50%.

Initially the engine was located in the back, behind the rear axle, water-cooled, had a volume of 633 cc, with power at 19 hp. The installation of a larger carburetor increased the output to 24.5 hp, equal to the Italian original spec's.

After 1960, Fiat increased the displacement to 767 cc, with power at 28 hp for the Fiat model 600D, which was first produced in Kragujevac as the Fića 600D, then soon named 750, under the name which it is now remembered.

The Zastava 750 in 1976 again got a larger carburetor and a power increase to 30 hp. After 1980 they installed engines with 843 cc, at 32 hp. the name became the Zastava Model 850.

The biggest bodywork changes came in 1968 when Fiat changed the direction of the door opening.

With the increasing use of local parts and more local standardization the Fića/ Zastava become more accessible contributing to the motorization of Yugoslavia. It was used in official purposes, ambulance, police, AMSJ ... It was the most popular car in automotive competitions, National class for cars up to 785 cc engine capacity. This is what is known and recorded as "National Class". Home made, modified cars are inextricably linked Fiat's Abarth name
