Porsche Macan

The Porsche Macan was the centerpiece for parties around the world as Porsche demonstrates that it is now building a full-model-line of cars.

AllCarCentral's friends at The local Michael Stead Porsche Dealership in Walnut Creek, California, invited us to come to their un-veiling party and our man in Belgrade, Serbia, Ljubomir Ivanovic, joined the party on an island in an area called Ada.

For 2014/2015 Porsche has released 3 new models; The Macan S; Macan Turbo and the Macan S Diesel. Did I just use the words "Porsche" and "Diesel" to describe a car?

The Porsche Macan is a shorted, lighter version of the Cayenne. The Cayenne was a hot performer for a Sport Utility Vehicle, but the early reports are calling the Macan even quicker. The Macan is reported to lap the Nurburgring in about the same time as the latest Boxster S.

The Macan's all have a turbo assisted engine.

The S has 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine delivering 340 bhp (250 kW), active all-wheel drive, electronically controlled, map-controlled multiplate clutch, all-wheel drive and a seven-speed double-clutch transmission.

The Turbo has 3.6-litre V6 biturbo engine; aluminium engine block and cylinder heads; four camshafts; four valves per cylinder; continuous intake camshaft and valve-lift adjustment (VarioCam Plus); hydraulic valve clearance compensation; direct fuel injection; two turbochargers; integrated dry-sump lubrication; 400 hp (294 kW) at 6000 rpm, Max. torque: 550 Nm at 1350 to 4500 rpm.

The Drag coefficient on the Cayan is; C: 0.37 and a reported 0-60 time of 4.6 sec.

The 4-door SUV's have limited rear cargo-area under the rear hatch do to the 'sporty' forward sloping rear hatch.

The Macan is built upon the Audi Q5 Chassis and has several Q5 Audi components, but Porsche claims to have re-engineered them to meet Porsche performance standards.

The unibody is constructed similar to the larger Cayenne, but with a number of innovations, including, which manufacturer emphasizes, stylistic elements from the model 918 Spyder.

The Macan is 4.67 m long , 1.92 m wide and 1.62 m high, while the wheelbase is 2.8 meters.

All versions of the Macan are fitted with the latest generation Porsche Traction Management (PTM) drive to all four wheels, and as part of the standard equipment offered for proper torque distribution among the axles and wheels. In standard mode, the drive is sent to the rear axle, and when driving conditions require it, the power of the transmitted and forward. By pressing the button, the driver can also include off-road driving mode.

The driving mode is only available with speeds up to 80 miles per hour, whereas it is automatically deactivated. The Macan S Diesel is powered by a three-liter V6 diesel engine with 250 horsepower, which provides acceleration to 100km in 6.3 seconds (6.1 with the Sport Chrono package) and a maximum of 230 km / hour.

The top model at this release, is the Macan Turbo, which runs a 3.6-liter V6 engine of 400 horses. Enough to accelerate to 100km in 4.8 seconds ( 4.6 with the Sport Chrono package ) and a maximum of 269 km / hour.

As with all modern cars the interior is mostly taken up by 'plush' and safety devices. It is a 4 seater but the surrounds are close. It may be that the old question of "what determines a 'Sports Car'," may have just gotten revived to include SUVs in the mix.

The Porsche Macan compact SUV ready set to bring new standards in driving dynamics and enjoyment on paved streets and uneven terrain.

The Porsche Macan design elements have been taken from Porsche sportscars and enhanced for the Macan.

Three models will be released. The Macan S1 with a 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine at 340 bhp (250 kW); active all-wheel drive with an electronically controlled, map-controlled multi-plate clutch. A seven-speed double-clutch transmission; 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds (or 5.2 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package fitted). Top speed of 254 km/h, and its NEDC*) fuel consumption figures are between 9.0 and 8.7 litres/100 km.
