I joined the owner and we had a drive into the Sonoma area. The Jaguar has a new Aluminum radiator and engine stayed cool as were inched up hwy 101 in the usual 15 to 20 min traffic crawl.
The owner had most all the work shopped out but did do a some of the work including refinishing the woodwork on the interior. This has been a long term project and the most interesting thing was the finish on the wooden dash and door sills. It was about 15 years old and had no signs of cracking, etc. It looked like it was just done, yet it had settled into the wood grain a bit dispersing the idea like some finishes, that the whole thing was plastic. the owner was very proud of this and explained in great detail the in-depth research and process he had undertaken. He also told me that Phil Hill walked up to him and this Jag some time ago and asked if he, Phil, could drive it as it reminded him of one he had. After Phil drove it, The owner said Phil did some adjusting on the suspension for him.

Well, I got the car back to replace the wiper spindle grommets. Took the dash down removed the wiper wheel houses to find rock hard coalesced grease. Got the wipers back together, Tested the instruments on the dash, but could not get the system to charge. Took the voltage regulator and generator out. The voltage regulator contacts were history. Got a new regulator and had the generator reworked. Found the problem a poor ground! All back together now. The new Motolita steering wheel is installed. The car goes back for windows, carpet,seats, and closure. The steering wheel adaptation to the cutdown original wheel looks like it was that way from the factory!

The interior is coming along. The leather is 1st quality. The windows in the doors are in and they are finding a gasket that works for the rear window. The parts from XK Unlimited have been only average. I do not know where they got their templates but only about 50% of the gaskets work. I had to use the original horn push plastic button because the one provided with the horn push assembly was a deep blue rather than black and the imprinted jaguar was obviously not close to the original. The dash parts that I ordered were also useless. Anyway the next two weeks should return the car for final check lists. The reassembly has been slowed by the poor quality of the new parts. Either the old parts were reused or the new parts were made to work. The car runs great and everything works!

Almost there. Rest of the undercoating and frame painting, some trim and weather sealing, repaint the wheels, and final check polish left.
