Goodwood Breakfast Club: Hot Hatch Sunday 5th Oct.
Once the manufacturers started on the quest for ever greater power, turbo's began to dominate, as they did in rallying in Europe. Road rockets, were offerings from Ford, such as Escort Cosworth RS Turbo and the Sierra XR4 and for rallying the Quattro from Audi reigned supreme. Both were to become victims of their own success. Following a spate of nasty accident Group B Rally Cars were banned in 1986 and Hot Hatches became very tame mainly due to the lack of alarm technology. Joy-riding became a huge problem, with cars being stolen and taken for long and dangerous rides.
Hot Hatches, have enjoyed a bit of a resurgence of late, but some might argue, no longer in their most pure form, now being weighed down by air-bags, traction control and other such health and safety equipment. Most of which having to use trick diffs to keep massive power running effectively through the front wheels.
Comparing the first of the GTi's, from Peugeot and VW.
Beautiful standard VW Goff GTi MkI. (not so sure about the alloys though?)
A go-faster Fiesta, known at "the trolley", clocked at 183.99mph, as it says on the bonnet (hood) shut.
Toyota Aygo Press Car.

Mithril Racing, brainchild of the late Peter Gethin, is based at Goodwood and has a number of interesting cars for hire. ( mithril.co.uk )
VW Golf GTi MkI
Vauxhall Corse GSi 16v. (Some might say, Corse by name, Corse by nature)
Renault Clio Sport.
Alfa Romeo AlfaSud, almost like mine! I had a 1.5SC. The best fun could be had stuffing it into roundabouts at crazy speeds, due to its flat 4 engine layout. Also meant my feet were off the ground when trying to do anything under the bonnet.
Just how I remember. Never did get a shot of my 'Suds dash.
Ford Puma. Friends tell me a very well balanced little car.
Tribute to the late Paul Walker.
Rather smart a very rare Ford Sierra XR4x4 by Turbo Technics.
Another Renault Turbo 2.
A Peugeot 309 "Goodwood" Special Edition: In Goodwood Green of course.
"Goodwood" Special Edition:
Not exactly a hatchback, but lovely to see: Lancia Fulvia HF.
Nissan Juke with Nismo bits and badges.
