Concorso Italiano Review 2014
The 2014 Concorso Italiano took place at its old home on the Black Horse Golf Course with nearby mountain views next to the Pacific Ocean of Monterey Bay. The locale is appropriate for all things Italian, not unlike many parts of Italy. The welcome shuttles took out walking from the parking area and added to the event's excellent organization.

Masserati
The many Masserati viewable on the fairways Saturday joined in the festivities as the Masserati company celebrated their 100th birthday! Concorso Italiano made Maserati the featured marque of the Centerpiece Display.
Alfa Romeo
The newly introduced Alfa Romeo 4C not only turned on its rotating platform adjacent to the stage and bleachers, but it also turned heads. This attractive mid-engine automobile will appear on the floors of US showrooms soon. Continuous variable valve timing for 16 valves plus a turbo help the 1,750 cc engine produces near 250 hp and 260 lb. ft. of torque from only four cylinders.

Vintage Ferrari Concourse The Ferrari Club of America held its own concourse within a concourse on Saturday. Judges reviewed ten Ferrari entrants per class. Correctness, authenticity, and cosmetics were the main standards of review for Ferraris pre-dating 2004. Chief Judge Tish Thinesen led a judging team using the International Advisory Council for the Preservation of the Ferrari Automobile (IAC/PFA) Guidelines. Many immaculate Ferraris rolled through the stage area including an Enzo and several 275 GTs.

Ferrari F1
Ferrari had on display a Formula 1, appearing ready to race. To the casual observer and even to the F1 fan this race car appeared basically like the one raced by Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari's current F1 drivers. The very knowledgable would note some differences in this 2003 model. These race carts always amaze me in their length, delicacy, and the apparent use and contouring of all surfaces for aerodynamics. They are even more impressive to hear wailing by at 18,000 RPM as they devour a straightaway in a blink.

Zagato
Zagato celebrated their 95th anniversary at Concorso Italiano with a showcase of Zagato's Atelier Contemporary cars selected by Andrea Zagato including the Alfa Romeo TZ3 and several Aston Martins. One of Zagato's specialties is collaborating with other auto producers including Lamborghini, Jaguar, Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Alfa Romeo to bring to market limited editions of rare beauties.

Lamborghini
Lamborghini displayed a Huracán, the model that is replacing the popular Gallardo in 2015. Although Huracán has several meanings, the most appropriate from past Lamborghini nomenclature seems to be the name of a fighting bull from the 19th Century. The car sports a 5,204 cc (318 cu. in.), ten cylinder V12 engine that churns out over 600 hp and pushes the car along at 202 mph. Vintage Lamborghinis, many in bright metallic colors, lit up the fairways.
