Citroën DS 60 godina

Citroën je svoj model DS pokazao svetu u oktobru 1955. na Pariskom salonu automobila i odmah postigao ogroman uspeh, kako kod kupaca tako i kod stručne javnosti. Tvorci modela DS bili su italijanski skluptor i industrijski dizajner Flaminio Bertoni i francuski inženjer aeronautike Andre Lefebvre. Rezultat je bio fantastičan. Bio je to automobil potpuno različitog izgleda u odnosu na svog predhodnika, model Traction Avant, kao i na sve automobile koji su se tada proizvodili u svetu.

Osim svog svovremenskog aerodinamičkog izgleda doneo je i neke tehničke novine. Bio je to prvi masovno proizvedeni automobil sa disk kočnicama. Imao je nezavisno vešanje na svim točkovima, kada je to imalo samo nekoliko automobila. I imao je čuveno hidropneumatsko vešanje sa automatski izravnavanjem nivoa vozila i promenljivim odstojanjem od tla, tvorac Paul Mages. Ovo mu je omogućavalo izvanredno ležanje na drumu i mogućnost vožnje i sa tri točka. To je i spaslo glavu nekadašnjem francuskom predseniku Šarl De Golu kada su atentatori izrešetali njegov automobil i probušili mu jednu gumu.

Model DS je imao servo upravljač i poluautomatski menjač. Bio je „obuven“ u radijalne gume Michelin, tada veliku novinu. Krov mu je bio izrađen od fiberglasa. Farovi koji prate okretanje upravljača, inovacija predstavljena 1967., bili su svetska senzacija. Po prvi put ozbiljnije se misli i na bezbednos putnika i na zone gužvanja.

Jedina mana ovog automobila bio je motor, koji je nasleđen od njegovog predhodnika, model Traction Avant.

U bivšoj Jugoslaviji sastavljan je u fabrici Tomos - Cimos u Kopru, a jedan automobil, u karavan verziji, dobio je od fabrike u reklamne svrhe tada popularni televizijski voditelj Mića Orlović. U bivšoj Jugoslaviji dobio je nadimak Ajkula, kao što je i još jedna legenda firme Citroën, model 2CV, imao nadimak Spaček.

Proizvodio se do 1975., za koje vreme je proizvedeno skoro milion ipo primeraka. Njegovi naslednici, prvo model CX, a zatim XM, bili su takođe inovativnog izgleda, ali nisu mogli da dostignu njegovu slavu i uspeh, Jednostavno, model DS je bio jedan i neponovljiv.
