California Mille 2015
From 1927 to 1957 Italy's famed Mille Miglia (thousand mile) high-speed open road race ran from Brescia to Rome and Back to Brescia. After a terrible accident that involved a Ferrari driver and several roadside spectators in 1957 the race was stopped. The Cars were getting too fast to drive at racing speeds on the open roads.
The California Mille is conceptualized after the Italy's famed Mille Miglia and The route includes the best driver roads that Northern California has to offer and is laid out to provide 1000 miles of touring. High speeds are not the goal but enjoyable touring is the word. The cars participating have to have been made before 1957. The drivers incur all kinds of weather and terrain and press on.
The cars leave the Fairmont Hotel on Monday and first cross the Golden Gate Bridge and into the famed Northern California landscape. The stops include the towns and area of Bodega Bay, Boonville, Avenue of the Giants, Ferndale, Mendocino, Point Arena, Fort Ross, Calistoga, St. Helena, and Middletown. The Tour takes 4 days and over night stops embracing the of highest fashion. Drivers and cars arrive in San Francisco for the start from all over the world, making this truly an international event.
